Orient Express

We've been a little adventurous lately when it comes to letting Noah try out new foods. Not over-zealous, just mostly out of curiosity and as long as it's safe for him - still no nut products. I have to admit that it's alot of fun seeing his reactions. It's almost like he's a miniature wine connoisseur because he puckers his lips and sips at the food at the edge of his mouth.

The husband is on an Asian food kick so last Saturday we tried out a place close to home that we always drive by but have never stopped. This time Japanese where they have regular dining, sushi and hibachi. We chose the dining room since hibachi is more about the experience, plus we didn't think Noah would appreciate the dramatic flames of the hibachi chef.

We ordered and our server brought our soups and actually offered to bring Noah his own soup. Why not? It was a clean broth but we couldn't place exactly what it was; maybe celery. Noah loved it! He even had his own little Chinese soup spoon. So cute. :)

Noah did get a taste of the hibachi experience. We happened to be sitting on the other side of the wall where a group sat down for hibachi and Noah just happened to be looking in that direction when the 4-5 foot flames came up from over the wall. I'm such a terrible mom because I can't help laughing but the look of sheer terror on his face was too much. He didn't cry and sure, I comforted him but poor little guy was just so surprised. LOL.

Last night we ended up at a Chinese buffet nearby that again we'd driven by for ages but never stopped. Noah had his own wonton soup that the husband gave him and we let him taste a couple of items but just for the reaction.

Anyhow, we let Noah pick out his first fortune cookie and although we don't believe in the whole "fortune" thing, I kind of like where this one was headed:

I ended up paying for the meal as the husband took Noah to get in the car, but I came outside to this happy sight instead:
