The (Almost) Demise of Mr. Monkey

If you live in Texas then you'll understand me when I say that the weather here is predictable yet unpredictable. Endless 100+ degree summer days...predictable. A fluke lighting and 80mph-wind rainstorm that lasts only a few minutes during said summer...unpredictable.

So what does the weather and Mr. Monkey have in common?

When this happens a block from your house you know you're not getting power back anytime soon.

Ergo we were once again uprooted from our house and planned to wait out the repairs while at the inlaw's. Noah was already in bed when we made the decision to pack up so he was more than happy to see Grandma and Grandpa and stay up a little later than normal. Which brings me to Mr. Monkey who was also evacuated with the family...

I give you Exhibit A (a.k.a Sadie):

While Noah loves Sadie, I have a love/hate relationship with big dogs that want to lick you like your a doggy popsicle. Most of the time she is outside when Noah is inside or vice versa but the occasional licking-fest happens in transfer. Sadie also has no regard for which toys are hers and which are Noah's but we've done a pretty good job keeping them out of reach until now.

Enter Exhibit B:

Noah is now at the age where he should start developing an attachment to certain things like a lovey or a stuffed animal and it's looking like Mr. Monkey may be the perfect candidate.

I was thankfully away from the house when the dreadful deed occurred. If I had been present I can guarantee any future love for Sadie would have been greatly compromised. Apparently while Noah was napping Sadie decided to make use of the time by stealing Mr. Monkey to her bed. By the time Grandma found him, our little green friend had lost some padding from under the tail and needed an immediate otoplasty (ear surgery).

All I can say is Grandma is a sewing ninja because I returned to a freshly washed and drying monkey and would not have known of the horrible tragedy that had befallen him had Grandma not said something. Sure, his tail may be a half inch shorter and the right ear a tad bit smaller than before but Noah still loves him and that's all that matters.

And in case you're wondering, our power did come back on in less than 24 hours. We were just one of 55,000 in the area that had been affected so we were blessed to not have to wait too long to be able to return to normalcy. Although, I can't say the same for our grill...
